The developers of North Augusta, SC’s Mount Vintage golf community had one top priority for its golf course – make it feel, if not look, like the famed Augusta National just over the border with Georgia. Even an expensive under-green air system on the Tom Jackson designed layout was a copy of the one used at the home of The Masters. Elaborate displays of flora and even a short bridge over a Mount Vintage stream echo the more famous golf layout.
But unlike at Augusta National, you don’t need to be a captain of industry or a U.S. President to become a member. You don’t even have to be a member at Mount Vintage to play the course since it is open to the public. (Top weekday green fee $55, cart included.) But if you do decide to become a member of the Mount Vintage club, you will have access not only to the 27 holes of championship golf, but also to a well-equipped fitness center, six lighted clay tennis courts, a junior Olympic pool and two bocce courts. For green thumbs, the community’s town center includes 68 garden plots to “grow your own.”
Mount Vintage has a sizable inventory of homes and lots for sale. Its location between Aiken and Augusta and just 10 miles from Interstate 20 means Mount Vintage residents can take advantage of the best these two southern cities can offer: Southern charm in Aiken and the additional services of the larger Augusta.
